An Update to the IUCN Red List

July 9, 2013

A recent press release from the IUCN Red List details findings from the latest update of the Red List of Threatened Species. Over 4,000 new species have been assessed, bringing the total number of species on the List to 70,294. This update includes the first global reassessment of conifers, which are the world's oldest and largest species.

New Studies on Climate Change

A recent paper from the IUCN published in PLoS ONE details findings from a massive effort to evaluate all of the world's bird, amphibian, and coral species for their vulnerability to climate change. The study is one of the biggest of its kind with an evaluation of over 16,000 species. Talk about comprehensive!

Friends of Target 12

Many organizations around the world contribute to the protection of species, and a new partnership called Friends of Target 12 brings several of these organizations together to support the achievement of "Target 12."

May e-Update published today

 Every two months, we send out an update to our members, donors, and social media followers about our recent activities. Our schedule for the past few months has been full, taking CBSG staff and regional network teams from Iguazu Falls in Argentina to the Moscow Zoo in Russia, and from a tiny island near New Zealand to the wetlands of South Africa.
